Mark Crawford continues to be one of my favorite collaborators. His range as a composer is remarkable — no matter the tone, genre, or emotional texture a project requires, Mark finds a way to create music that feels deeply authentic and elevates the story. On The Social Dilemma, I was continually blown away by his ability to deliver beautiful, emotionally resonant music day after day under enormous pressure. On Chasing Time, our collaboration became something even more playful and creatively expansive — discovering the emotional language of the film together was a genuine joy. Mark is thoughtful, values-driven, and an absolute pleasure to work with. I can’t recommend him highly enough.

We had a really tight turnaround on The Social Dilemma, and a huge spectrum of tone to cover. Mark was able to stretch his sound from mournful and human-sounding to cold and machine-made, all while keeping the score coherent and memorable. It’s the glue that holds the documentary and fiction elements of the film together. He is immaculately professional and capable of anything. Finally hearing the finished recordings come to life in surround sound at Skywalker during our final mix was something I’ll never forget — it was like seeing the film for the first time.

Working with Mark was a true creative partnership. His score did not just support the film — it helped define its emotional language and gave shape to moments that were still evolving in the edit. There was a point where his work started to unify the film in a way that picture alone had not yet achieved. Sequences that felt separate suddenly felt connected through a shared emotional thread. The score wasn’t just an addition — it was a core part of the storytelling.

Mark’s soundtrack blew my mind and really elevated the film — it was ultimately nominated for an Emmy and played a tremendous part in making the film stand out. Watching him orchestrate a live in-studio recording with such mastery and enthusiasm was an experience I’ll always remember. I am certain his name will rank among the best film composers of our generation.

Mark has an incredible musical range — with his background in percussion, he was able to capture both the sound and feeling of Guatemala and the deep emotional landscape of the story. He is not only a very talented composer and musician, but a true team member, championing the film since it premiered.

The score Mark wrote created a sonic through line that helped weave two complicated stories into a single narrative — when we dropped his cues into the more poignant scenes, it became a challenge to fine-tune the edit without shedding tears. One of the most rewarding aspects was working with Mark to record the score live with soloists from the disability community. Full Circle is about breaking through the perceived limitations of disability, and Mark fully embraced that ethos by proposing and making it happen. This is a great example of Mark being a true creative collaborator, going above and beyond to deliver an end result that we all couldn’t be more proud of.

Co-writing with Mark is a deeply joyful experience. I feel very safe to express my creative instincts, and his music inspires so many ideas. It’s a natural, flowing process where conversation turns to music, and then to more music. As we get into the editing, it’s like a calm game of tennis, rallying ideas back and forth to create the best song possible.

Mark has an incredible ability to truly understand story, flow, and emotion, and it shows in every piece of music he creates. He doesn’t just compose — he elevates the entire project. He is one of those collaborators you are always hoping to work with again, and I genuinely get excited every time he shares something new.
